Nestle has removed its popular Maggi Instant noodles from the shelves in India after a handful of states banned the product due to fear of excess lead level.The food company said in a statement that the noodles were completely safe but explained that recent developments and unfounded concerns about the product have led to an environment of confusion for the consumers. They said that due to this confusion , they had decided voluntarily withdraw the product off the shelves, despite the product being safe. Indian states had carried out tests on noodles , which had shown the product had higher than allowed level of lead. Later Nestle tested packets of Maggi and found that lead levels are well within the limits specified by food regulations and that Maggi noodles are safe to eat.
Nestle India is making all efforts and will continue to engage with authorities to bring Maggi noodles back on the shelves. But people has lost the trust on the product and I myself doubt whether people would depend upon Maggi noodles as before. Maggi noodles was always a time-saver as we are were able to cook Maggi in less than five minutes and was cheap as well as easily available. But the ban on this product has resulted in people loosing faith on this product and I doubt whether they would be able to return to the market with the same vigour as before.When it comes to the matter of health , people are not ready to compromise. Even though the ban on maggi is taken off, it does not have the same popularity as before. In my opinion , the product sold in market should care for the health of the public and they should be true to their own words in advertisements. Thus we can hope that this ban will help Maggi and other brands realize the importance of public health.
